How to DIY Your Own Eco-Friendly Dryer Sheets—Without Any Chemicals

Last Update: September 6, 2024

A fluffy comforter straight from the dryer is everything. Couldn’t you just envelop yourself in its pillowy softness and stay there forever?

It’s no secret that dryer sheets are the key to making a clean load of laundry feel and smell so good. But what most of us don’t know is that conventional ones are often coated in chemicals like benzyl alcohol and benzyl acetate, which have been linked to lung irritation and pancreatic cancer, respectively.

Luckily, there’s a way to get soft, fresh-smelling, and static-free laundry without all the potentially harmful ingredients. DIY dryer sheets coming right up.

All-Natural Dryer Sheets

Supplies

Old clean T-shirts
Mason jar
½ cup white vinegar
10 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions

Cut old T-shirts into approximately 8-inch squares. Stuff them into a mason jar. In a separate bowl or jar, mix together vinegar and essential oil; then pour into mason jar with T-shirts and stir to combine. Store in airtight container and use as needed.

Bonus: They’re reusable! After each load, just soak the used dryer sheets again in a solution of vinegar and essential oil.
