Eczema, aka dermatitis aka skin inflammation, can leave patches of skin dry, flaky, red, and itchy. Read: the worst.
While antibiotics and steroid creams are sometimes prescribed for more severe outbreaks, this simple, all-natural solution—made with honey (which has antibacterial properties), shea butter, coconut oil, and essential oils—can help alleviate eczema symptoms. It’s also easy to make, ultra-moisturizing, great smelling, and safe for sensitive skin.
½ cup shea butter
½ cup coconut oil
1 tablespoon honey
40 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops tea tree oil
Melt shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler, then add the remainder of the ingredients and stir until combined.
Transfer to a bowl and using either or stand or hand mixer, mix until light and frothy; you’re looking for a lotion-like consistency.
Then store the rest in a sealed glass jar and use on irritated skin as needed.
But remember to do a patch test first! Dab a small amount on an inconspicuous area of skin, like the inner arm, and wait about 24 hours to make sure it doesn’t react or flare up.
